Death Panels = “bogus” and “It is a lie.” Illegal Immagrants = “false.” ABORTION = “misunderstanding”

“And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up - under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

Once again The President has asserted that there is no government funding of abortion in the Health Care Bill. Calling it a misunderstanding is not satisfactory at this point, and chucking pro-lifers in as unyielding ideologues does not smooth out the matter.

“Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise.”

How would the President explain in detail why both liberals and conservatives say the plan allows for the funding of abortion?

How would the President explain in detail how the goverment-collected premiums for the public option would not be used to pay for abortions when the administration has already emphatically declared that it includes abortion as “essential health care.”

How might the President speculate openly why this bill in its current form is so strongly supported by Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other pro-abortion activists? (Surely it’s not because no goverment dollars would ever be used to pay for abortions or expand the abortion industry.)

All these open questions about abortion makes me wonder what is being set in place for the future. If they don’t expressly prohibit the funding of abortion through an amendment like the Hyde Amendment for Medicaid, the courts will see to it that it’s to be included. It wasn’t spelled out in Medicaid and it ended up paying for 300,000 abortions per year until the Hyde Amendment put an end to it.

All this has happened before, and it could happen again on our watch if we fail to navigate the nuances.
